What to Expect

This space is a reflection of my reading life that’s thoughtful, honest, and deeply personal.

Having been a regular reviewer with Kids Book Cafe and also being a mom to my teen, who is a voracious reader, books are a constant presence in my everyday life, across ages, genres, and perspectives. The books you’ll find here are not chosen because they are popular but because they stayed with me (or sparked meaningful conversations at home).

These are not summary-based reviews. Instead, I write about what a book made me feel, notice, and question as a reader, a writer, and an observer of stories in real life.

I don’t believe in assigning star ratings to books. A book that speaks deeply to me may not resonate the same way with someone else. Also, as a writer myself, I understand what goes on behind the scenes in bringing a book to life — the time, effort, and vulnerability. Reducing that journey to a few stars doesn’t sit right with me.

Instead, here’s how you can gauge a review for yourself:

  • I share a brief gist of the book (without spoilers)
  • I mention the genre and context behind my liking or dislike
  • I talk about age appropriateness and who the book may work for
  • I reflect on how the book impacted me personally
  • For fiction, I often touch upon writing style, characters, and key elements

The idea is to help you understand what to expect, so you can decide if the book is for you.

Also, the length of my review might quietly say something too (iykyk!).

One thing remains constant: honesty.
If something didn’t work for me, I will say it with respect, and with a sense of what could have been better.

This is a space where books are not rated; they are experienced.

Whether you’re looking for your next read or simply want to sit with a book a little longer, you’re welcome to read with me.
